Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), or particle trap, is actually a large filter element for filtering particulate matter. It collects all the black smoke and other impurities generated by the engine, thereby reducing the emission of particulate matter.
DPF will burn the collected black smoke through exhaust heating. This process is called DPF regeneration. The regenerated filter element can be kept unobstructed so that it will not affect the engine performance due to clogging. Regeneration is inevitable. Once the engine recognizes that the DPF is blocked, it will trigger regeneration.
DPF regeneration methods are divided into two types, namely passive regeneration, and active regeneration.
