Ceramic Foam Filter In Cast Iron

The slag inclusion defects in the castings greatly affect the production efficiency and economic benefits of the iron casting plant. Coarse inclusions on the surface reduce the surface finish of the casting, and in severe cases lead to the direct rejection of the casting.

Inclusion defects under the skin are usually found only in the processing stage, assembly stage, or actual use stage. For example, in the processing workshop, the presence of macro or micro inclusions will reduce the machinability of castings and the life of processing tools. The inclusions that exist during assembly will reduce the mechanical properties or service performance.

Metal inclusions can be divided into two categories based on their sources.

  1. Foreign inclusions: come from the erosion of furnace lining, ladle refractory materials, slag or scum formed by reaction with air, erosion of molding sand, or erosion of any other materials in contact with molten metal.
  2. Endogenous inclusions: formed by the reaction of molten metal, such as magnesium-sulfur inclusions.

The cast iron inclusions are large and complex. Their formation depends on the chemical composition and temperature of the molten iron.
